HISTORY
Establishment:
The landmark restaurant was founded in 1921 by James Laskaris, an immigrant and candy maker.
Evolution:
It started as a classic diner and lunch counter with dark wood booths and a long service counter. Over the decades, it became famous for its quick counter service—including a well-known tradition of servers balancing hot dogs on their arms.
Family Ownership:
The business stayed in the family, later run by Helen's husband and eventually focused under family management including their son Jim. Jim Laskaris passed away in 2017 at the age of 93, but the family-oriented diner atmosphere has been preserved.
The Vibe:
Located at West Market Street in downtown Lewistown, the interior maintains its basic diner layout with vintage booths and timeless charm.
Menu Staples:
Locals and visitors have long praised its traditional diner offerings, affordable prices, and comfort foods like homemade rice pudding.
